MobilityPLUS Service

MobilityPLUS is a specialized service of pre-booked trips for people with a mobility challenge. People registered with MobilityPLUS can book a ride anywhere within the Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge city limits.

People seeking to use this program must meet the eligibility requirements and become a registered member of  MobilityPLUS.

You may be eligible for the MobilityPLUS program if you meet any one of the  following criteria:

  • Physically unable to climb or descend steps on conventional public transportation 
  • Unable to walk a distance of 175 metres (575 feet)
  • Suffer from a temporary disability, such as a broken leg
  • Registered with CNIB

GRTs bus fleet consists of low-floor buses, so using conventional is encouraged whenever possible. People registered with MobilityPLUS may ride conventional buses free of charge.

MobilityPLUS for Visitors

A visitor to the City of Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo or the Township of North Dumfries may register with GRT MobilityPLUS for a maximum of six months.

Applicants must:

meet current GRT MobilityPLUS eligibility criteria
allow a minimum of 10 business days for the application to be processed
complete a GRT MobilityPLUS visitor application form available here

 


How to Use

MobilityPLUS is a specialized pick-up and drop-off service for pre-booked trips. It uses small bus-style vehicles to transport people with impaired mobility.

People registered with MobilityPLUS can book rides in advance anywhere within the city limits of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo.

To book a ride, please adhere to these guidelines:

  • Recreational/Personal trips must be booked at least two business days ahead of the trip, and no more than seven days ahead.
  • Rides for Saturday, Sunday and Monday must be booked by Thursday.
  • Medical, post-secondary education and employment-related trips must be booked at least two weekdays ahead, and can be booked up to 28 days in advance.

Subscription bookings

You can also make subscription bookings, which are permanently scheduled rides for the same day and time, and the same pick-up and drop-off location. Such rides are available to take you to and from work, post-secondary education or repeated medical appointments.

All subscription bookings which fall on statutory holidays will be automatically cancelled, except trips for renal dialysis.

Booking rides

To book rides, please have the following information available:

  • Your name and MobilityPLUS I.D. number
  • The date you require transportation
  • Your exact pick-up address
  • Your exact drop-off address
  • The time you want to arrive at your destination
  • The time you want to return
  • Whether you will be accompanied by an attendant or companion
  • What mobility device (if any) will be used.

Note on Timing: Please be ready 15 minutes before your scheduled pick-up time. Also, be prepared to wait 15 minutes past your pick-up time. This flexibility allows us to accommodate as many riders as possible.

MobilityPLUS customers may travel on the pre-booked service within these times:

Monday to Friday 5:15 am - 1:15 am
Saturday 5:30 am - 1:15 am
Sunday/Statutory Holidays 7:15 am - 1:15 am


No Shows

A "No Show" is a passenger who is not at the scheduled pick-up location at the scheduled time. If you are a "No Show," your return trip will be automatically cancelled. Please view our No Show Policy for further information.
