Fare Prices

As approved by Regional Council, a transit fare increase will take effect on Friday, July 1, 2016.

The fare change will help GRT keep pace with inflation of operating costs and sustain and support ongoing improvements to transit service in the region as outlined in the following budget documents:

How to pay your fare

If you pay with cash:

  • You must have the exact fare. Drivers do not sell tickets or make change.
  • Place your exact cash fare in the farebox when you board the bus.  Fareboxes accept any combination of bills and coins. GRT's new fareboxes only accept coins. No bills or pennies please.  Request a transfer if you wish to continue your trip on another bus.  It is valid for 90 minutes, and is your proof of payment when you wish to board another bus.

If you pay with a ticket:

  • Place your ticket in the farebox (or temporary container for buses with the new farebox) when you board the bus.

If you pay with a pass:

  • Show your pass to the operator and have a seat. Do not place your pass in the farebox. Your pass is valid for the month shown on the front of the pass.

If you pay with a transfer:

  • Check the expiration time at the bottom of your transfer, you may board until that time.
  • If you have a current GRT transfer, give your transfer to the operator and have a seat.
  • For buses with the new farebox, show the current GRT transfer to the Operator and deposit it in the temporary container.
  • If you are using a new transfer, distributed by the new farebox, hold it up to the barcode scanner located on the new farebox. The farebox will check if the transfer is valid.

Fares are subject to change without notice.
