Safety Programs

Grand River Transit is committed to your safety and security. Our employees and security personnel are prepared to assist with any of your safety issues.

We offer two safety programs Safe Haven and Request-a-Stop.

Safe Haven

Dangerous situations can arise at any time. Our Safe Haven program is designed to offer temporary refuge in times of trouble. If you ask for help, we will assist you.

If you feel you are in danger, if you have lost a child, or if you fear for your safety day or night, you can get on a bus or go to a terminal. It will be a safe place where someone will arrange immediate assistance for you.

A supervisor or our security personnel will be contacted to help you.

Request-a-Stop

In the evening, riders travelling alone can request an alternate stop location along bus routes. Operators will do their best to accommodate requests to exit the bus at a stop that is not a regular bus stop.

• Request-a-Stop is available every day from dusk or 9:00 p.m., whichever is earlier, until the end of evening service.
• Please give the operator advance notice of your requested stop area.
• The driver will stop at a location deemed to be safe.
• For added security, please exit by the front door.

Please note that this program is not available on iXpress routes because those routes feature limited stops and travel along highways.

The bus operator will not go off route to satisfy a request. However, the operator will select the safest stop location closest to the requested area.
