2013 Transit Service Improvements

As approved by Regional Council on May 8, 2013 the following Transit Service improvements are effective September 2, 2013.

These changes include modifications to existing service and approximately 48,000 hours of added service.

Route 201 iXpress: will be extended from the Columbia Street West and Philip Street intersection to Conestoga Mall via King Street North. Weekday midday service will be increased from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes;

Route 202 iXpress: a new cross-town iXpress route that will travel via Erb Street West and University Avenue between The Boardwalk and Conestoga Mall. The route will operate Monday to Sunday providing 15 minute weekday peak and midday service and 30 minute off-peak and weekend service;

Route 5 Erb: will be modified to provide two-way service between Uptown Waterloo, the Westvale neighbourhood and The Boardwalk; replacing the current one-way loop through the Clair Hills and Westvale neighbourhoods. From Uptown Waterloo, service will be extended across Erb Street East and Bridgeport Road to the Bridgeport neighbourhood in Kitchener. 30 minute service will run Monday to Friday with 40 minute evening service. Saturday service will run every 30 minutes with 60 minute evening service;

Route 6 Bridge: will be realigned to provide direct service between Conestoga Mall and Downtown Kitchener via Bridge Street and Lancaster Street West. Route 6 service will be removed from the Bridgeport neighbourhood and will be replaced with Route 5 Erb service to Uptown Waterloo. Route 6 weekday evening service will be extended from 9:30 p.m. to midnight. Saturday evening service will be extended from 7:30 p.m. to midnight, and 60 minute Sunday service will be introduced;

Route 9 Lakeshore: midday service will be increased from 30 minutes to 15 minutes between University of Waterloo and Parkside Drive at Cedarbrae Avenue on weekdays. Sunday service will be increased from every 60 minutes to every 45 minutes. Schedule times will be adjusted Monday to Sunday;


Route 12 Conestoga Mall/Fairview Park: will be relocated from Carter Avenue and Marshall Street to the Lincoln Road area via Weber Street;

Route 13 Laurelwood: two-way service and an extension to The Boardwalk will be introduced on Route 13, replacing the one-way loop around the Laurelwood neighbourhood. An additional extension will be implemented to Laurelwood Drive at Blue Beech Boulevard in the Laurelcreek Village neighbourhood. Saturday evening service extended from 11:15 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Sunday service extended from 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.;

Route 20 Victoria Hills: Weekday and Saturday evening service will be increased from every 60 minutes to every 30 minutes;

Route 23 Idlewood: Weekday evening service will be extended from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.;

Route 29 Keats Way: Weekday peak hour service on Route 29 Keats Way will be reduced from every 10 minutes in the a.m. and every 15 minutes in the p.m. to every 30 minutes. Saturday evening frequency will be reduced from every 30 minutes to every 60 minutes, and Sunday service will be reduced to operate between 10:15 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. with 45 minute service. Many Route 29 riders will be within a reasonable walk distance to 202 iXpress service on Erb Street;

Route 31 Columbia:  service will be modified to provide local service through the Eastbridge neighbourhood between Conestoga Mall and University of Waterloo. From University of Waterloo, service will be extended along Columbia Street West to the roundabout at Wilmot Line. Service will be removed from the Ring Road at University of Waterloo and from University Avenue East. Evening service will be extended from 6:15 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.;

Route 35 Eastbridge:  will be discontinued and replaced by a modified Route 5 Erb across Erb Street East and Bridgeport Road, and by modified Routes 6 Bridge and 31 Columbia in the Eastbridge and University Downs neighbourhoods.
