GRT celebrates Transit Team Appreciation Day
Waterloo Region – March 18 marks Transit Team Appreciation Day. On this day, we honour all Transit Services staff and thank them for their devotion to serving the community.
“Many thanks to all the people who work tirelessly to make our Region’s transit system run each and every day,” said Regional Chair Karen Redman. “Efficient transit systems like GRT are delivered by caring professionals in service to this community. Let’s all share our gratitude with the dedicated transit staff.”
GRT, in collaboration with partners Keolis, Kiwanis Transit and Voyago, have hundreds of staff working to ensure riders get where they need to go - whether it’s to work, home, appointments or leisure. The Region’s transit network will get you there safely and sustainably.
“I’m impressed and proud of our innovative, solution-oriented staff who face challenges head on,” said Neil Malcolm, Acting Director, Transit Services. “This year is GRT’s 25th anniversary. Without the dedicated professionalism, talent and commitment of our team we would not be where we are today. Thank you for 25 years of providing this essential community service.”
Throughout the year, GRT buses and ION trains complete approximately 26 million passenger trips travelling nearly 18.6 million kilometres.
“As Waterloo Region grows to one million people, our members are committed to providing excellent transit service every day,” said Heath Abbott, President, Unifor Local 4304. “We believe in their knowledge and ability to operate and maintain conventional and MobilityPLUS vehicles all for the benefit of the community and environment.”
“Every day, but especially today, we stop to acknowledge and thank the devoted staff who diligently work to ensure a safe and reliable transit service,” said Noelle Fletcher, President, CUPE Local 1883. “Know that your effort has not gone unnoticed, and you are appreciated.”
Transit riders and the community at large are invited to show their appreciation and support on March 18 by exchanging in hellos and thank yous with transit staff. The community can also send messages through GRT social media accounts (Twitter/X, Facebook, Instagram), GRT’s online feedback form, or by calling 519-575-7555. Messages will be shared with staff.
