GRT fares effective July 1
Starting July 1, the reduced fare for seniors, elementary and high school students will end. There will be no change to cash fares, regular monthly passes or stored value payments for the second year.
GRT is moving away from age-based fare reductions to reductions based on income. Regional Council approved these changes as part of the rollout of the Affordable Transit Program (ATP) in order to offer more people living with low-income (including seniors, elementary and high school students) affordable transit.
The ATP offers a 48 per cent discount on the price of a monthly pass or stored value payment. Eligibility for the program is based on income.
Seniors and students can continue to use their existing EasyGO fare cards and do not need to replace them. MobilityPLUS customers who have reduced tickets can continue to use them until Dec. 31, 2021.
