Pride with us

To mark Pride Month, Grand River Transit (GRT) is inviting the community to Pride with us. Throughout the month of June, the GRT Pride bus will travel on conventional bus routes, and all GRT buses will have Pride decals near the front doors.

Pride Month is a time of celebration for the Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning, intersex and asexual+ (2SLGBTQIA+) community, and an opportunity for GRT and the Region of Waterloo to reaffirm our commitment to creating welcoming and inclusive spaces for everyone.

“The Pride bus is an important symbol for the ongoing work in our Region to celebrate our community’s diversity, provide equitable services and ensure everyone feels welcome in public spaces,” said Karen Redman, Chair of the Region of Waterloo.

To show support for the community, Pride T-shirts will be available for sale to the public at GRT Customer Service Centres, starting June 1. All proceeds from the T-shirt sales will be going to Spectrum, which supports the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in the Region of Waterloo.

“We’d like to thank Grand River Transit and the Region of Waterloo for their partnership and for encouraging our entire community to ‘Pride with us’ this year,” said Scott Williams, Executive Director, Spectrum. “Spectrum is committed to providing meaningful programs and support for 2SLGBTQIA+ people in our community and this collaboration will help us as we continue to deliver much-needed supports.”

GRT will also be giving away special Pride transit tattoos and sunglasses during the month of June and at tri-Pride on June 10.

“Transit is a community service, and it’s a priority for us to make sure everyone feels welcome on our buses and trains,” said Doug Spooner, Director of Transit Services.

“This month gives us an opportunity to remind everyone we’re proud to be a part of their journey, as we celebrate the diversity of our staff and community every single day. I’m looking forward to sharing this bus design with the community as part of that celebration.”
