Waterloo Region – In response to the challenges associated with the current COVID-19 pandemic, Grand River Transit (GRT) is making the following changes:
Effective immediately, GRT service will be free until May 31, 2020
Weekday bus service will be reduced starting April 20 due to reduced staffing levels and low ridership; and

Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo approved a 40-month agreement with UNIFOR Local 4304 representing Grand River Transit/MobilityPLUS operators, dispatchers, fleet mechanics and service attendants. GRT will return to full service Saturday, February 1, 2020.

Waterloo Region - A tentative agreement has been reached between the Region of Waterloo and Unifor Local 4304, representing Grand River Transit/MobilityPLUS, operators, dispatchers, fleet mechanics and service attendants.
Unifor’s ratification vote will take place on Thursday, January 30, 2020. Pending the results of the vote a special meeting of Regional Council will be convened as soon as possible to consider ratification.

The Region and Unifor 4304 met Wednesday and were unable to reach an agreement.
“The Region is extremely disappointed that negotiations have broken down. Waterloo Region – The Region of Waterloo values the safety and security of both GRT customers and employees.
Over a week ago, the Region and Unifor agreed to install safety barriers on all 278 GRT buses over the next three years beginning in 2020, at an estimated cost of $1.7 million. Every bus is equipped with multiple cameras to provide for the safety and security of members of the public and our employees.
