GRT is planning service improvements this September as part of the 2020 Transit Service Improvement Plan. Routes serving south Galt, Elmwood, Northview and Saginaw areas would be redesigned to provide direct connections, more travel options and to increase ridership long-term.

The changes proposed will:

  • Replace one-way loop routes with more direct two-way routes
  • Provide better weekend and evening service
  • Provide more direct travel to major destinations, including:
    • Ainslie Terminal
    • South Cambridge Shopping Centre
    • Cambridge Centre Station
    • Di Pietro’s Plaza
    • Franklin/Saginaw area (No Frills plaza, St. Benedict High School)

The proposed plan is subject to Regional Council approval. If approved, changes will be implemented in September 2020.

Route 58 - Elmwood area routing options

Map of routing options for Route 58

Route 58 is proposed to be extended to Cambridge Centre Station. This would provide new travel options to Di Pietro’s Plaza, No Frills Plaza and St. Benedict High School.  Additional evening and weekend service would be introduced.

To accommodate the proposed route extension, service along Elmwood Avenue, Brooklyne Road and Avenue Road would be removed. To ensure residents in the Elmwood area would be served, we are considering two routing options:

  • Option A – Travel along Elgin Street: provides direct service but a longer walk distance to Elmwood area
  • Option B – Travel along Moscrip Road: less direct service, but a shorter walk distance to Elmwood area.
