GRT is planning to build a new bus station at the Sunrise Centre in Kitchener. The new station will improve transit connections and customer convenience in the area by providing a bus-only platform with safe pedestrian access to nearby shops. The central platform design will allow for easy transfers between bus routes serving southwest Kitchener.

The station will feature a number of passenger amenities:

  • 1 central platform with room for 6 buses
  • Large heated shelter with benches
  • Real-time LED information displays
  • Map boards
  • Landscaping and lighting
  • Bicycle parking
  • New accessible crosswalks and a walkway connecting to Walmart

The new station will be located between Walmart and Home Depot, west of the fountain. Riders will be able to connect directly to Routes 33 and the 205 iXpress. When ION light rail service begins, customers will be able to also connect to Routes 3 and 22.

The new station is planned for completion in fall 2019.

The Sunrise Centre Station supports GRT’s New Directions plan to provide more comfortable rides, stops and stations.
