Grand River Transit MobilityPLUS service operates within the urban areas of Waterloo Region. It provides specialized transit service to customers who have a disability that impacts their ability to travel on GRT buses or ION trains. Please note that MobilityPLUS is only available to people who are eligible and registered. We also offer specialized service for township residents.

Types of eligibility
- Unconditional - A person with a disability that prevents them from using conventional transit.
- Conditional - A person with a disability where environmental or physical barriers limit their ability to consistently use conventional transit. An applicant who qualifies for conditional service may be able to use conventional transit for all or part of their trip but may also qualify for specialized transit under specific circumstances for some or all of their trip.
- Temporary - A person with a temporary disability that prevents them from using conventional transit. An applicant who qualifies for temporary service requires specialized transit for a defined period of time.
MobilityPLUS application
For residents of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo.
The application contains two parts:.
Part A - MobilityPLUS application to be completed by the applicant or their delegate/representative
Part B - Health/Disability Professional form to be completed by a health/disability professional who can speak to the applicant’s disability(ies) and their ability to take conventional transit. Appropriate professionals could include (but are not limited to):
- Physician
- Nurse practitioner
- Psychiatrist
- Psychologist
- Optometrist
- Physiotherapist
- Occupational therapist
- Social worker
- Orientation and mobility specialist
- Kinesiologist
- Managers from pre-approved adult day programs or long-term care centres
- Other professionals approved by the Region

Expiry and renewal
If you have a registration end date and would like to continue using MobilityPLUS, please call 519-585-7597 at least two months prior to your registration end date to request an extension of service. At that time, you will be asked to update your contact information and any changes that might affect your ability to use MobilityPLUS and/or conventional GRT buses and ION trains.
Assessment and appeals
GRT strives to provide a fair and objective MobilityPLUS eligibility process resulting in the best level of customer service.
GRT reviews the information that you provide in your application, and may request an in-person assessment, if required, to determine the most appropriate category of MobilityPLUS eligibility for you. Should you disagree with the eligibility decision, you may wish to request an independent appeal to have the decision reviewed. Additional information on the appeal process, as well as required forms, can be obtained by calling 519-585-7597.
MobilityPLUS for visitors
Visitors to the city of Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo or the Township of North Dumfries may register with GRT MobilityPLUS for a maximum of six months.
Applicants must:
- Meet current GRT MobilityPLUS eligibility criteria
- Allow 14 calendar days for the application to be processed
- Complete a GRT MobilityPLUS visitor application form
The following forms of identification can be used to complete the application:
- The registration number for specialized transit services in your home city/region
- A photocopy of your CNIB card
- A copy of your service animal certification
The GRT MobilityPLUS visitor application is also available in PDF format. Print the application, complete all fields and sign it. Return the completed application to GRT.
