Mobility devices on MobilityPLUS
Customers travelling on GRT vehicles may use standard mobility devices, such as standard wheelchairs, manual or electric 3- or 4-wheel scooters, canes, crutches, and walkers. If you use a scooter, you must be able to transfer independently to a stationary seat.
MobilityPLUS operators will provide light assistance to customers and will secure or stow any standard mobility device once on board the bus. Some unconventional mobility aids cannot be safely secured on MobilityPLUS vehicles. GRT reserves the right to refuse a ride to customers using an unconventional mobility aid that cannot be safely secured using the MobilityPLUS securement system or that would interfere with the safety of other customers. Unconventional mobility aids that must be registered or require an operating licence (motorcycles, vehicles, etc.) are not permitted on GRT vehicles.
It is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that their standard mobility device or unconventional mobility aid is kept clean and in good repair. This includes having functional brakes, lap belts, motors, and a secure structure for proper securement. If a mobility aid is unsafe or not mechanically functional, access to book rides may be suspended until the issue is resolved.
Customers are responsible for notifying MobilityPLUS of the type of mobility device they use — including mobility devices used by a support person and/or companion — prior to booking a trip to determine the appropriate type of vehicle. Customers must also notify MobilityPLUS of any changes to their mobility device. Customers are encouraged to consult with GRT prior to purchasing a new unconventional mobility aid.
