Paying with a student card

Full-time students at Conestoga College, University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier University have a U-Pass automatically added to their student card each semester.

To pay your fare on the bus, tap your student card on the farebox when you board. There are two different models of farebox on GRT buses. Hold your card level and square against the card reader and wait for the farebox to ding. 

To pay your fare on the train, tap your student card on the platform card reader before you board the train. You can also tap on the fare vending machine in the middle of the platform by selecting "Pay/validate your ION trip".

If your card doesn't work or if your card is lost/stolen, contact your student card office.

Did you just get a new student card? It may take up to two business days for your U-Pass to work on all GRT buses and trains.
